1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong spoke over the phone with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Retno L.P. Marsudi on March 1 for the first time since his inauguration, and exchanged views on ways to advance bilateral relations and regional situations.

The two Foreign Ministers noted with appreciation that the two countries have been strengthening substantive cooperation in a range of areas even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and agreed to continue to develop the special strategic partnership between the two countries by deepening cooperation, especially in national defense and security as well as trade and investment.

3. In addition, regarding the latest developments in Myanmar, the two Foreign Ministers shared concern over the numerous civilian casualties on the common understanding that the safety and well-being of the Myanmar people is a top priority. They agreed on the need to stop the use of force, to restore the democratic transition process that reflects the aspirations of the Myanmar citizens, and to uphold the core principles stipulated in the ASEAN Charter including human rights and the rule of law.
