1. The Government of the Republic of Korea strongly condemns the mass killing of civilians by the Syrian government forces through the indiscriminate bombardment of populated areas using heavy weapons, including tanks and helicopters, in the village of Treimseh near Hama, Syria, on July 12.
2. The Syrian government forces’ action clearly violates Special Envoy Kofi Annan’s six-point plan, Security Council Resolutions 2042 and 2043, and international laws, and the ROK government calls on the UN Security Council to send a strong and united message to resolve the Syrian situation as soon as possible.
3. The ROK government also calls on the Syrian government to immediately stop the use of violence against civilians and to allow the United Nations Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) to access the site and conduct an investigation.
