1. Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan had a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet
Davutoglu on the afternoon of May 24.
2. In the telephone conversation, Minister Yu explained the outcome of the investigation into the sinking of
the Cheonan announced last week and extended gratitude for Turkey’s issuance of a strong statement of
condemnation against North Korea on May 21. Further, he requested that Turkey continue cooperation with
the international community’s stern and unified countermeasures against the country.
3. After expressing sympathy and consolation once again over the Cheonan incident, Minister Davutoglu
stated that Turkey, as Korea’s traditional blood-tied ally, will support and cooperate with the Korean
government’s future countermeasures both on the bilateral level and on the international stage such
as the UN.
