1. Minister Song Min-soon held the ROK-Afghanistan Foreign Ministers' Meeting with Foreign Minister of
Afghanistan, Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, on September 25, on the sidelines of the 62nd Session of the UN
General Assembly.
2. Minister Song thanked the Afghan government for its cooperation for the safe return of Korean citizens
who were kidnapped in Afghanistan. In response, Minister Spanta explained that the Afghan government
made its utmost efforts to resolve this issue, while expressing deep regrets and condolences over the
fact that this kidnapping took place in Afghanistan and that two Korean citizens were killed by kidnappers.
3. Minister Song commended the efforts by the Afghan government and the international community for the reconstruction and maintenance of peace in Afghanistan, and explained that even though Korean troops in
Afghanistan plan to withdraw as planned before the year-end, the ROK Government will try to come up with
ways to continue our participation in such efforts. Minister Spanta said that the Afghan government is making consistent efforts for stability of Afghanistan, and asked for the ROK's continued cooperation for the
reconstruction of Afghanistan by sharing its past development experiences with Afghanistan, etc..
4. The two ministers agreed to continue bilateral consultations for further promotion of cooperative ties
between the two countries.
