1. The ROK-Canada Bilateral Security Consultations will be held in Seoul on November 4, 2002, participated
by related officials from the foreign and defense ministries of the two countries. The ROK and Canadian
delegations will be led by MOFAT Deputy Minister for Policy Planning and International Organizations Cho
Chang-bum and MOFAT Assistant Deputy Minister for Global and Security Policy James Wright, respectively.
2. The two sides will take this opportunity to review and discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula
including North Korea’s nuclear issue, and also share views on cooperative measures between the ROK
and Canada in regional security bodies such as the ARF as well as in areas of PKO and disarmament.
3. The upcoming Bilateral Security Consultations, which will be held for the first time between the ROK and
Canada, is expected to reaffirm the shared awareness between the foreign and defense ministries of the
two countries regarding the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and regional security issues, and also
contribute to the improvement of the regional security environment and strengthening of bilateral
cooperation in the international arena.
